Who we are
WasteWatcher is maintained by the National
Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS). WasteWatcher is one
of the Compliance Assistance Centers developed
with support from EPA's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assistance
(OECA). Each Center focuses on a different industry sector, one that
is heavily populated with small businesses and entities, and that faces
substantial federal and state regulation.
Our objectives
The main
objective of WasteWatcher is to deliver compliance assistance information
for
companies and individuals involved in moving
solid waste across the U.S - Canadian border and onto disposal sites
to help ensure the disposal of such wastes occurs in an environmentally
sound manner that complies with state and federal regulations. The
initial focus of WasteWatcher is the importation of Canadian municipal
solid waste into Michigan. Other U.S Canadian municipal solid waste
import/export circumstances may be covered in the future.
Our methods
Finding answers to
highly specific regulatory questions and mapping an efficient route
for environmental compliance are both difficult tasks. The
regulated community is bound by federal, state and local environmental
regulations, some of which overlap.
To provide compliance
assistance, WasteWatcher has created an array of information and tools,
which includes both unique internal resources,
and links to useful information found on the Internet. We encourage
you to use these resources to help sort out your situation, and to find
efficient and cost-effective solutions. Our tools include:
- Driver and vehicle regulations,
- Load restrictions (e.g., hazardous, medical and radioactive wastes),
- Border crossing procedures,
- Points of contact,
- Solid waste landfill data, and
- Related information.
